Considering this was or meant to have been based on a board/electronic game in which one person tried to guess and blow up their opponents Battleship by guessing where their ship(s) are, this film actually DID pull it off. Plus although Rihanna wasn't much use (It could have been anyone - she did well) her acting wasn't too shabby. Would need to see more from her and she DID make me laugh a few times, but was Officer Riggs, Riggs? or Riggs Rihanna!?!
Anyway, you have the premise. You are trying to blow up a ship. Well, not you, hopefully, but the aim is to blow up the other ships, in this film. Centered around up and coming star straight from John Carter and most might know him from X-Men Origins: Wolverine playing the role of Gambit, Lt. Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is first seen as a complete idiot going out of his way in order to either 1, get a girls number or 2. sleep with her. What he does, is beyond amusing and doesn't surprise me, however, during the film at some point, Liam Neeson says to him, "you have soo much potential". I did chuckle as I couldn't see it thus far into the film. Without spoiling too much about the film, I suggest you watch the trailer. Not everything from the film is in the trailer, but at least you'll know what to expect.
As for the storyline, it wasn't that far fetched. Man are always trying to do "silly" things, like trying to search the realms of space for life which isn't from the planet they dwell and when confronted, act really shocked and bamboozled that on the off chance they spent millions of citizens money to send signals into space in hope for life, life actually says "hello" and they get upset. I really don't know. But the film was a very good watch and I have to say, it was different, well, sort of. They used water and lots of it. Unlike the very very terrible, Skyline & the not so bad but rental with a pizza and a beer Battle: Los Angeles.
I suggest if you haven't seen it, have a watch, it's not that bad. Plus Rihanna makes you laugh as well as keeping her hat on the whole time. There are also some other funny parts and it also just goes to show, you can do some crazy stuff for a woman and she will love you for it. The Dangerous, the better.
I'm actually still amped after watching the final instalment of The Transformers films. I am soo amped that, I woke up the following morning making the sound from the cartoon series when it used to go from one scene to another. Der da derr da deeeerrr di. I think the only thing that keeps Transformers alive is, well, ummm, the die hard fans of the cartoons, the wanting to know who will be in the films, who would change into what and how much of a badass Megatron will be this time around. I'll explain.
The acting is wooden. Or not to be THAT harsh, the "main lady's" acting is wooden. Always!!! The storyline isn't always terrible (as I've come across some TERRIBLE Storylines) but they are passable. However and probably from being a fan, so this might be a slightly bias review, but seeing transformers change from vehicle to robot and vice-versa is soo incredibly sexy! So with that said, add some great special effects, something sinister in the plot (no matter how predictable) and a little comedy and Transformers just doesn't fail to leave you thinking, "I liked that". You kind of put aside the weak acting from the "leading girl" and the storyline because the brilliant fighting scenes and the jokes in between captivate you more.
In this third and final instalment, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is looking for work and having a really tough time, in turn, taking it out on his girlfriend, Carly Spencer (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley). Not only is his parents doubting his credibility and ability to keep a gorgeous woman and to also get a job, he is really trying to fit in, be a normal person and just, matter. Have a normal life, despite saving humanity from extinction by the evil Decepticons, twice.
Things start going mental when Sam gets stalked and harassed by a crazy employee, attacked by a Decepticon, Lazerbeak and then learns of the Decepticons plan to retrieve an ancient artifact located somewhere on the dark side of the moon since the 1960's.
Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and his gang, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Sideswipe and a few others do whatever they can to stop the bad guys from winning the war that once was on Cybertron, now on earth.
The film is a little longer than normal and at times, felt that the film was actually much longer, but chunks of scenes made shorter or cut right out of the final product. There is a scene on the motoway/highway/freeway which involve Sam and Bumblebee that was amazing to watch. Also a lot of slow-motion bits to emphasize great detail in the characters and the action. There are plenty of great fighting scenes as well, which accompanied with the comedic remarks, comments and gestures, makes this a must see.
In 3D, hmmm....a little necessary, but whatever, you will like the film.
This could quite possibly be one of my shortest reviews ever. It's shit. The End. Only joking. Well on the fact that this is the end of the review anyway, but in regards to the film, hmmmm. The storyline seemed interesting. The special effects from a low budget film were standard and well, ummm....well, what you see in the trailer is more or less the film. Imagine, Cloverfield. A film shot in 'Found Footage' style and because of the "EVENT" and what is going on, no one is none-the-wiser as to what is going on at all, so the film finishes and you leave the cinema thinking "WTF...what was all that about!?! What were their purpose? etc, etc" Well, we didn't need found footage for this film. Not to say that style was used, but I actually got NOTHING from the film to really detail and explain about it. It literally was like watching Cloverfield and thinking the same thing when it ended. But Cloverfiled IMO is 10 times much better.
I'll give you the plot if you haven't already read it somewhere.
Jarrod (Eric Balfour) and his girlfriend, Elaine (Scottie Thompson) fly to L.A to celebrate Terry's (Donald Faison) birthday. The morning after the party turns out to be more than just a hangover for one guy when blue sphere type lights come down from the skies striking different locations of the city and once he looks into it, he falls into a trance and gets abducted. While all this is happening, Jarrod also succombs to the light but is torn away from it by Terry. Jarrod and friends then try to escape the building via means of a car that manages to get crushed by a huge alien foot and the driver doesn't get off lightly. After some running, more confrontation, more running, some brains and waiting, then it is day 2. Day 2 consists of more action and some U.S cavalry and a nuke. That all goes to shit and then the film does too, straight after, IMO it just coming FROM shit. Day 1 was boring for me.
There were some funny bits and that was about it. The story wasn't explained, the characters weren't in the film long enough for you to feel any kind of feelings towards them and it ends in such a way, it makes you question yourself. It's like, a good film with an interesting story which was poorly executed. Maybe things were edited out, maybe the Brothers Strause's have other ideas. I don't know. What I do know is...don't rush to see this, wait for DVD/Blu Ray or stream it. You ain't missing anything. Get ready for Battle: LA instead. Hopefully that will be much better.
Hayden Christensen plays (David Rice) a young man who discovers how to teleport (Jump) from one place to another in an instant. As this abnormality makes him and others like him different, they are seen as superior, God-Like, as it were and tracked down to be killed. David then discovers that there has been a raging war that has been going on for centuries between the 'Jumpers' and the 'Paladins', led by Samuel L. Jackson (Roland Cox) in the mist of just getting into doing whatever he wants, whenever. After shortly discovering this, he has to then fend off the Paladins and save himself and his love interest.
This film isn't a blockbuster at all, but is a very good watch. Samuel's character is sinister and if you have not seen him in arole like this, you'd be pleasantly surprised. Hayden also acts well in this film, but i think the hat comes off to Billy Elliott star, Jamie Bell (Griffin), who i believe his role steals the show and the lime light from Hayden.
The locations in this film will make anyone who likes to travel want to travel to these places. We see Rome, The Grand Canyon, London, Egypt and Tokyo among many more. The fight scenes also take us across the world and the road in a matter of seconds and also add that little extra sense of 'the world is your oyster' kind of thing. However, the dazzling special effects may leave you a little dizzy.
If you enjoy a Samuel L. Jackson film, then this is something for you. No powerful statements though. You are bound to enjoy as there is a good storyline, however, the length and ending may disappoint. Another disappointing thing about the film is the character development. Maybe they will explain a bit more, later.
Who remembers Predator? Good, alie? Do you also remember Predator 2? Weren't that bad was it? And all the Alien films? Good as well, weren't they? (I actually haven't seen Alien Resurrection properly, so i can't really comment on that). Alien Vs Predator, well...was it good? Do you remember it? Have you even seen it? I have and unfortunately, I have erased it from memory. For those who have seen it will possibly remember the pure, unadulterated cheddar cheese ending as the building or whatever was exploding and the female and the predator was running away in slow motion like a scene from Baywatch.
NO!!!! Predator or Alien for that matter is not cheesy. What were they thinking of?
The sequel on the other hand is good. The Trailer doesn't show too much of the action, so you can actually watch the film and not feel disappointed.
This film, if you didn't know is the Sequel to Predator 1, 2 and Alien Vs Predator and the Prequel to all the Alien films. The film starts days after the ending of Alien Vs Predator where a Predator is giving birth to an Alien (Predalien). This ultimately gives this new Alien a Unique look. Buckhead and Dreads in tow. After the birth of the Alien, the ship in which a few Predators are on board, crash lands on Earth and then this is when all hell breaks loose.
Without spoiling the film too much, there isn't a lot of people you meet that actually survives, as everyone and everything in this film meets it's untimely demise once the predator ship crash lands. The film has some bad acting and a few corny lines, but is a very good watch. The storyline isn't anything. This film does not need a storyline as Predators hunt Aliens and judging by the first AVP, this is a continuation. This film is about survival from two separate species that are fighting each other. Also, this is not for the squirmish as there were a few disturbing scenes in which some if not all women expecting will not enjoy.
With what we already know about the film, i.e. in most cases, nothing. You actually leave the cinema experience not much different from before you stepped in. However, i must say, this was not a rubbish film to watch.
You follow a video fly-on-wall, documentary in which you meet and follow one person and his friends through an unforgetable experience all caught through one video camera. From when the film starts, it does not take very long until the action starts and does not end. If you watch the film to the very end, you'd understand.
This film is a disaster movie and not for the squirmish. Without giving the film away too much. I can only say what has been said by movie reviewers and that is, it is a cross between Godzilla and the Blair Witch Project.
The film is done in a way that is just like the Blair Witch Project, however, with some "Thing" running around lose in New York City (as per usual). This is NOT your one man takes on all odds kind of film. You can expect casualties in abundance, buildings toppling over and well....you know, your average blockbuster film like Independence day or Godzilla filmed from just a random guy from the public with his friends and a lot of battery power in his little camcorder, which captures an event that passes and doesn't actually seem to stop.
Acting was flawless and because of the way the film was shot, you can't help to feel involved and actually in the film. It's not like your watching a movie with actors playing people (in which you are), but it is like your actually in the film and what you watched was a close friend of yours or someone you knew or heard of in the real world.
This film is deep. This film is different. This film is Cloverfield and you should watch it.
Do you know who James Cameron is? He's one of those directors who needs as much of an introduction as Steven Spielberg! He is the guy who directed 'Escape from New York', directed and wrote, 'The Terminator' to then do it again and produce, 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day'. He did work with Arnie on a string of films since T2 with, 'Last Action Hero' & 'True Lies' and not only did he do 'Aliens with Sigourney Weaver, 'Titanic' with Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet, he also had some kind of involvement with 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines' and 'Terminator Salvation'. This guy is out there with the greats. You should know all of this and if you didn't, well now you know.
The rumour I heard surrounding Avatar was, this film has been 15 years in the making. Avatar had been in development since 1994 and was really meant to come out in 1999 after Titanic. However, he thought that technology needed to catch up with his ideas and so he left it to 2009. In all honesty, I don't blame him and he did the best thing as Avatar is a marvellously beautiful and REAL LOOKING film. I say REAL LOOKING because in reality, I haven't seen 15 foot tall creatures that speak a different language and a little bit of English on the streets of London, however, if one had lived inside a closed box and knew everything about special effects and all that jazz but haven't seen another real person other than themselves and the outside world, watching this film would get this person thinking that the Na'vi are real and other special effect films are just, well, special effects. What I mean is, the effects are so good, you'd be mistaken into thinking that you are watching a documentary of some sort or just real actors. When you see the facial expressions of the Na'vi and how they move so fluidly and how the light bounces off their hair, eyes and skin, you see that a lot of thought has gone into the effects and that it looks so real that, like I said, you'd think you are watching real actors.
The planet of Pandora resembles earth, however Pandora is beautifully abstract and very colourful (from what we have seen thus far). Rich in minerals that are very valuable in which the Humans are trying to cash in on. So, in saying that, that is what the film is about. Humans come from earth to go to Pandora, set up shop and then rape the planet of it's minerals for profit. Unfortunately, where all the most valuable materials are, is underneath the Na'vi village(Hometree) who are described as blue monkeys and savage animals who live in harmony only to be barbarically attacked by the humans for their own selfish money making schemes. Obviously, they put up a fight as the humans basically say, move or be pushed out of the way and that is where a full scale war with the Na'vi against the Humans start.
The war is led by a Human, Jake Scully(Sam Worthington) who has been sent to infiltrate the Omaticaya's village in his Avatar body, to learn their ways and convince them to move. However, as the Omaticaya see him as a deluded member of their own species, they teach him how to do things their way. This leads to falling in love with a native, Ntiri(Zoe Saldaña), who also falls in love, but as time runs out for Jake to get the Omaticaya clan to move, the corporation move in and start destroying the forest. When Jake tries to stop them and destroys the camera on one of their machines, he is disconnected from his avatar and imprisioned. He is then broken out and then heads back into his avatar to try and convince the Omaticaya clan that he meant no harm and he wants to help them win the waging war against the humans.
I saw this in 2D and 3D and all I can say is, it isn't necessary to watch this film in 3D, but it does add to the experience. This film is so good that, running for 3hours, it still manages to keep you entertained and wanting to know what happens next.
Brilliant and Excellent watch. I recommend this as a must watch for 2009 and a must purchase, especially if there are gonna be sequels. Trailer:
